I have THREE settings for my books. Two of them are in my home county of Yorkshire:

WHITSBOROUGH BAY – The fictional North Yorkshire seaside town of Whitsborough Bay is predominantly inspired by Scarborough where I live but also draws inspiration from some of the other wonderful local coastal resorts such as Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. Anyone familiar with this area is likely to recognise a few places and perhaps be transported back to happy childhood holidays! There are several series within this setting, linked books, and cameo appearances by characters.

THE YORKSHIRE WOLDS – The Yorkshire Wolds is a large area of coast and countryside across North and East Yorkshire. I have two series set in the rolling countryside. The first is Hedgehog Hollow which is a completed six-book series set in a hedgehog rescue on a farm. The second is Bumblebee Barn. This is planned as a trilogy with book 2 out in May 2024 and book 3 out in 2025. All the villages and towns mentioned in my Yorkshire Wolds books are fictional but inspired by real places in the area.

THE LAKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK – This beautiful part of the UK is somewhere I’ve holidayed since childhood and is my happy place. My family particularly love Keswick and Derwent Water so they’re the inspiration for my Escape to the Lakes series. In this series, Keswick and Derwent Water are real, as are all the fells I mention, but the village of Willowdale and the key setting of Willowdale Hall are fictional. They’re inspired by the pretty village of Portinscale and The Lingholm Estate (between Portinscale and Cat Bells) respectively.

I strongly recommend reading this series in order. Book 1 was written as a prequel so potentially could be read out of order but books 2-4 are about the same three women: Sarah, Elise and Clare. THE HEDGEHOG HOLLOW SERIES

In this series, Samantha Wishaw remains the main character throughout. The first book – Finding Love at Hedgehog Hollow – is her story about how she came to be owner of the beautiful farm and rescue centre. The subsequent books in the series still have Samantha as the narrator but they are dual perspective stories where Samantha’s story runs alongside that of another family member or a friend.

From book 2 onwards, I have a cast of characters and a ‘Story so far’ reminding readers of what has already happened which provide a helpful recap but I would personally recommend that this series is enjoyed the most when the books are read in order. This is because the story behind Samantha having Hedgehog Hollow is a recurring theme, as are the relationships she have with friends and family, so it’s best to go on that journey with her from the beginning.

Having said that, there are many readers who have dipped in partway through but most to then say they want to go back and start from the beginning. The story is so much richer reading it from the start.

Each book is written as a standalone complete story but each book has a cliffhanger chapter at the end, leading into an event that kicks off the following book. If you don’t enjoy cliffhangers, please don’t read that chapter! I emphasise that the story I am telling in each book has been completed but the cliffhanger chapter is a teaser for what is to come.
